Draft horse saddles - Playing With The Bigger Boys

Draft horses are completely different from the light horse breeds and cannot be expected to get along using the same tack. Not only are draft horses bigger they are structured in different ways than the conventional breeds. The big boys of the horse world are not only larger, they are wider and have alot more bone width and definition. Draft horse saddles are a must for the serious horseman.

Many people do not realize that draft horses come in two distinct types the lower “farm chunk” 16hh draft and the larger, hitch type, 17 hh and taller. While many saddle makers build draft saddles, not all build for the 17hh+ bigger boys, but it is becoming easier to find even these sizes of draft horse saddles, as they become more popular. There are now on the market draft horse English Saddles, Trail Saddles, Show Saddles,Mule Style Saddles, and many more, saddle makers even build custom saddles allowing you to have a saddle built specifically for your needs.

Using equipment that is improperly fitted to your draft horse can be not only uncomfortable but can also damage your horse’s sensitive back muscles, so take the time to find the right draft horse saddles and tack. A search on the internet will open a world of draft horse saddles, so take the time to search out saddle makers and remember to consider used tack as well!
