Cutting saddle - Information on the cutting saddle

As different sports evolve in the horse industry, as does the demand for specialized style of western saddles such as the cutting saddle.

Because cutting is an event requiring an extremely athletic horse and the ability to start, stop and turn extremely quickly, the sport demands a saddle that allows as much unrestricted movement as possible. A cutting saddle is built with a flat seat, high pommel, and free swinging fenders to aid the rider’s balance and position during the cat-like movements. Stirrups on a cutting saddle are oxbow style and are to be used tight against the boot heel.

When searching for your first cutting saddle be sure to enlist the help of someone knowledgeable. Your first cutting saddle need not be a brand new one, check out used saddles as well, but keep in mind the fact that safety and fit are of the utmost importance.
