Used close contact saddles - Buying a used close contact saddle
Many riders today, instead of automatically going for new close contact English saddles are checking out to the option of a used close contact saddles. Besides the obvious advantage of price, buying a used saddle may also allow you to purchase a model that you may not otherwise be able to afford.
Used close contact saddles are available both on the internet and at most local tack shops. Find a saddle that you can try on your horse, since an ill fitting saddle is not much better that no saddle at all. A used close contact saddle that doesn’t fit your horse can cause discomfort and even injury to the horse’s sensitive back muscles, so take the time to make a knowledgeable choice.
As with any second hand model, used close contact saddles must be checked before purchase. If you do not feel experienced enough to “vet” the saddle have someone check it for you. Be sure to check for excess wear and tear, especially around the girth and billets and around the seat and knee rolls. If you have to spend a large amount of money having a used close contact saddle repaired, it may not be the bargain you had hoped for.
