Antique saddles - Get what you pay for!
Horses and man have a bond that trancends time. Although the first horsemen rode bareback, it was not long before saddles were invented, intitially as an aid for riders during warfare. Perhaps because of the bond between horse and horsemen, collecting of antique western saddles has increased greatly.
While not all people have the opprotunity to own, or even ride a horse, collecting antique saddles brings out the cowboy in everyone.
It is not hard to find antique saddles, but be sure to bring along someone who knows about these saddles to ensure you truly are getting what you are pay for. The risk involved with buying saddles “sight unseen” or off sites like Ebay is that you don’t know the seller, and you can’t examine the product until you already own it! Getting a refund is often difficult if not impossible, so internet purchases are really “buyer beware”.
Take the time to research any items that you may be interested in buying. Auctions can offer items from a Mexican saddle to everyday used western saddles, so make sure you can tell the difference!
