Used Asur saddles: great saddles on a budget

Before searching for used Ansur saddles you should know some background. The Ansur treeless saddle was the “brain child” of Peter De Cosemo, after envisioning a saddle without a rigid tree. Teaming with saddle maker Bill Huston, the prototype to the Ansur saddle was created.

The basic premise of the Ansur saddle was to eliminate the solid core tree common to most saddles today. Without the tree, a saddle is free to form to the horse’s back, instead of the muscles of the back being forced to the shape of the saddles tree. When buying used Ansur saddles you don’t have the added headache of trying to check a leather or fiberglass tree.

With Ansur making saddles now for virtually every discipline, there is often a great selection of used Ansur saddles available. Try to deal with reputable retailers and whenever possible, see if you can have a short trial period. Sometimes if you look around you can find shops that carry used saddles and offer short warrantees; take advantage of these retailers whenever possible.

If you are unsure what to look for in a used Ansur saddle, don’t be afraid to ask for the expertise of someone knowledgeable. Check the saddle for excessive wear or damage, as repairing a used saddle can end up greatly increasing the cost of the purchase.
