Show saddles: introduction to show saddles

Show saddles are saddles designed for the horse show ring. There are specific show saddles available for each discipline, be it western, english or saddleseat.

English saddles, as long as they are in good shape and clean, can all be used as show saddles. There are specific styles of saddle for jumping and dressage, but a good all purpose saddle can perform both functions without the cost of buying two separate saddles. All purpose saddles are especially good for those who want the flexibility of being able to use the same saddle both over fences, and on the flat.

Western show saddles are much more elaborate than their english counterparts. Often hand tooled and decorated with silver and fancy stitching, these saddles are both beautiful and completely functional. Aside from the “dressing up” of these models, show saddles are no different from the usual, they are designed to meet or exceed every standard that other saddles follow.

New and used show saddles can be purchased from a tack shop in your home town, or from many tack shops and saddle makers on the internet.
